Couples Boudoir – Top 10 Tips for a Sexy Photoshoot

Edmonton Boudoir Photography

We LOVE it when a couple decides to capture their LOVE for one another with one of our couples’ boudoir photoshoots. But we understand that you probably aren’t familiar with how to pose with one another when you aren’t the ones behind the camera.

That’s why we have the ultimate Top 10 Tips to create your sexy couples’ boudoir photoshoot.

  1. Prepare ahead for your couples’ boudoir shoot
  2. Trust the intimate photography process
  3. Pretend the camera isn’t there
  4. Don’t worry about how other couples looked
  5. Exaggerate your poses
  6. Create a story (a LOVE story)
  7. Remember, it’s OK to feel awkward at your couples’ photoshoot
  8. Trust your instincts
  9. Compliment your partner!
  10. Shake out the tension BEFORE (and during) your couples’ photoshoot

1. PREPARE AHEAD

When we say prepare ahead, we mean talking about your desired outcomes and expectations for the shoot. When you both arrive at the photoshoot on the same page as one another there won’t be any surprises that might make one of you feel uncomfortable. And you’ll both be posing SEXY at the same time.

2. TRUST THE PROCESS

This is for everyone, but especially the guys. For some reason, the guys seem to struggle the most with believing that they will come out looking as gorgeous as we know they are. We want you to trust the process. We get that posing for photos may not be your thing and that you will be worried about how you look. But Laura Lee, one of our AMAZING photographers as well as hair and makeup artist, advises the following:

“Men- don’t worry about your facial expression or if you feel your “not photogenic” we will be directing you on what to do or where to look! So, relax into the experience. We got you.”

3. PRETEND THE CAMERA ISN’T THERE

Try pretending that you aren’t being captured by a camera. Instead just have fun and talk to each other. Getting into your own natural groove together will help to bring out your comfort and natural emotion. You will feel more relaxed when the photographer starts snapping photos.

4. DON’T WORRY ABOUT HOW OTHER COUPLES LOOKED

One of the biggest restrictions we put on ourselves is when we feel the need to compare ourselves to look as good as someone else, or in this case, as good as some other couple. We imagine that their life is somehow more glamorous or sexy than ours and this intimidation comes through.

Remember every couple is different and it’s not a competition. Some couples are softer, more romantic and others lean toward kinkier photos. There is no right or wrong, but only what makes you feel comfortable.

5. EXAGGERATE YOUR POSES

One of our BIGGEST posing tips is to EXAGGERATE your positions. For example, when pulling your partner in close, whether you are holding onto their waist or a piece of clothing, really embellish the action.  This helps our photographers to capture your emotions on camera.

6. CREATE A STORY

Sometimes, it helps to have a story in mind when posing together. In one of our previous posts, 8 Fantasy Spring and Summer Boudoir Photography Themes We Love, we suggested the theme of Snow White and the Huntsman or Guinevere and Lancelot.

You don’t have to roleplay, but some couples find it helpful to bring out their playful side when they’re nervous (although your nerves won’t last long because our team is AMAZING at helping people find their comfort zone).

7. REMEMBER, IT’S OKAY TO FEEL AWKWARD

Unless you’re used to people snapping photos of you when you are half-dressed, chances are you are going to feel a little awkward posing, at first. And that’s okay. In fact, it’s really quite welcome. Because as all of our photographers would be quick to say, the more awkward you feel the BETTER the photo outcome!

Having a hard time getting your partner to push past the awkward and get on board? Here are our top 6 ways to get your male partner to commit.

8. TRUST YOUR INSTINCT

In truth, there is no wrong or right way when it comes to posing with your partner. We want you to TRUST your natural instincts and how you normally interact with each other. Ultimately, if you are CONNECTING with your partner, (making them laugh, FEELING the love), you are doing it right.

9. COMPLIMENT YOUR PARTNER!

Confidence goes a long way toward feeling comfortable in front of the camera. When you come for one of our couples’ boudoir photoshoots, we will do our best to make you feel SPECIAL, AMAZING, and just plain FANTASTIC. But chances are, you or your partner aren’t used to all the attention you will be getting.

This is why it is crucial that you COMPLIMENT your partner. Remind them how AMAZING they look. How SEXY, HOT, STUNNING, and BEAUTIFUL they are. They will radiate those words and glow from the LOVING vibe they are getting from you. And trust us, that will show in how you pose with each other and will appear on the camera.

10. SHAKE OUT THE TENSION

Often the most awkward part of a photo is the hands. What do we do with them when we are actively posing? Our suggestion is to shake out the tension you may be feeling, particularly with the arms, and that will help to avoid the awkwardly placed closed hand on a body part look.

Another area that can often look tense is the lips. When they are closed, they can make the whole jawline look tense. We always suggest to our clients to open their lips part way for a softer look.

And there you have it, our Top 10 Posing Tips for a Sexy Photoshoot. Remember, a couples boudoir photoshoot is all about highlighting the intimacy between you and your partner.
