Brandon’s birthday was fast approaching and Shayla wanted to create an experience he’d never forget. But what could have just been a boudoir shoot for her and a gift for him turned into a couples experience that is a gift they can share for a lifetime.
We interviewed this incredible couple about their experience so you can see what it’s like and prepare for your couple’s boudoir experience 📸

Confidence and vulnerability all rolled into one to create a moving boudoir experience
“Normally, I don’t enjoy being the center of attention,” Shayla shared when we asked her about her boudoir experience. For her to strip away the layers for a boudoir shoot in general was a courageous step, even though she’d done it before. To do it with her partner meant a new level of vulnerability that she was excited to embrace.
The courage, confidence and vulnerability tied to a boudoir shoot wasn’t lost on Brandon.
“She has a calendar that she made,” he tells us. “I was blown away that she did that and showed me.”
Atmosphere is key to all kinds of boudoir experiences, especially a couples boudoir photoshoot
Here at Gabriela Cruz Photography, we are very familiar with creating comfortable settings that boost your confidence. We like to think of ourselves as both your personal hype girls and your shoulder to cry on. We know that there are times when your session might bring up past memories, old wounds, and the feeling of release that comes with owning your power and your body. We also know when it’s time to pump up the jams and turn the day into a celebration.
But when it comes to couples boudoir, there is a different balance to maintain. It needs to be a safe space for everyone’s emotions, experiences, and confidence.
“At first, I was a little shy but I opened up and it was so much fun,” Shayla tells us.
“I had never gotten, before, a gift that brought me to tears,” Brandon tells us, “and at the same time f*cking scared.”
But in the end, he really had no trouble getting into the groove. He’s naturally pretty comfortable in his body and found that the experience was a lot more about connecting with his partner than worrying about the camera. Which we find happens a lot with our couples clients. They often come in as an awkward bundle of nerves and quickly find themselves in one of their most natural states – love.
“I got lost in Shayla’s eyes and listened to the professionals,” he says.
And those professionals (ahem, that’s us!) made all the difference for Shayla. “They empowered us and really were able to capture our chemistry and bond. It was so much fun.”
This Edmonton couple’s boudoir photoshoot highlighted their unique bond
“I cried twice,” Brandon recalls.
The beauty of the moment. The celebration of a love built between two people. The vulnerability. The laughter. The tears.
“I felt his emotion,” Shayla recalls.
“That experience, I will never forget. Shayla and I want to now do more sessions and themed ones. 10/10 I recommend!”
But it wasn’t just about their day in the studio. Seeing their photos helped them understand just how unique and truly special their bond is.
“I’ve never seen myself looking at Shayla,” Brandon tells us. “People around us said that we have something and those pictures showed me.”
Shayla agreed, saying the pictures let her see how they look “from other people’s perspectives and we are fire 🔥”
