10 Wedding Photo Ideas to share with Your Photographer

As fun as it can be, planning a wedding can be stressful, and it’s easy to forget the little things, especially pictures of the little things. They may seem insignificant now, but you’ll want to remember every detail down the road. Consider telling your wedding photographer beforehand that you want these photos done to know they won’t be missed.

1. Getting Ready

These photos usually feature the bride and her bridesmaids in more casual attire before the festivities begin. I absolutely LOVE these! There’s something so intimate about the jittery nerves and excitement that fizzles behind the scenes that I can’t get enough of.

Grab some matching robes or sweats and take your time getting dressed. These photos will be super cute and fun.

2. The Rings

Up-close, detailed shots of the rings together make a lovely, traditional addition to the wedding album. I know a lot of people who actually opt to use these as the cover image for their album. Shiny, intricate engagement rings, good lighting and an excellent background make for an extremely artistic photo.

3. The Bouquet

Like the rings, this shot is a great way to add a little variety to a wedding album full of people. Plus, the bouquet is often so carefully chosen, with vibrant colours to match everything else.

If you’ve chosen fresh flowers, they will also eventually die, so a clear, beautiful memory of them is crucial.

4. Walking Down the Aisle

This one is a two-parter. You want to get a shot of the bride coming down the aisle with her father (or whoever else) by her side. It’s also lovely to get a photo of the groom as he sees the bride for the first time – these reactions are often priceless.

5. The First Kiss

The first kiss as a married couple is a moment you’ll only experience once, and you’ll always appreciate having it captured memorably.

6. The Empty Reception Area

Between the decorations, centrepieces, and your chosen venue, the reception area always has its own charm, and there’s something peaceful about it sitting empty. A wide shot of the open room is a great reminder of all the thought and hard work you put into it.

7. The Cake

The wedding cake is always beautiful, and it’s another thing that won’t last forever. Get a nice picture of the whole thing before it’s eaten, so you don’t forget what a masterpiece it was.

8. Candid Wedding Photo Ideas

Between all the staged, posed, and artistic shots, you might want some that are more casual and candid. Things like dancing, laughing, hugging, cheering – anything that depicts the sheer joy and wonder of the day.

Here are some ideas:

    9. The Wedding Exit

Similar to the picture of the bride walking down the aisle, this picture shows an important transition moment. But, instead of nerves and anticipation, the atmosphere will be relaxed and celebratory. It’s another unique moment that will only happen once – get it on camera!
