1. Do something that makes you nervous

Tackling a nerve-wracking task can be liberating. It’s not about skydiving without a parachute, but facing those small, nagging fears that hold you back.

We’re talking about small things that you’ve been putting off that make you nervous.

Maybe…

It might go great or it could all go terribly, but you won’t know unless you try and feeling a little embarrassed isn’t nearly as bad for your confidence as never trying at all and always wondering “what if.”

2. Boast your wins

You might want to do this weekly or daily. Or you might want to just do this once.

If you do it weekly or daily, think of all the things (big and small) that you accomplished recently and write them out. Hang them somewhere you can see to remind yourself just how good you’re doing.

If you want to do this once.

Make a list of your major accomplishments, laminate or frame that baby and hang it somewhere you will see it often.

YOU ARE FIERCE. Remember that!

3. Set a small goal and achieve it

We get a natural high from accomplishing our goals. But it doesn’t just feel good because of that. It also feels good because it gives us a confidence boost.

Our minds keep a kind of running balance of our accomplishments and “failures” which contributes a lot to our overall feeling of confidence. Or, our lack of confidence.

(Now, I’m not a psychologist and I know there is a lot more involved in it than that. Some people might have a harder time recognizing their accomplishments or put extra emphasis on their failures. If this is something you struggle with, it might be helpful to seek out a professional to talk to.)

👉 Let’s try it out together.

What is a small goal you can accomplish in the next couple of days?

Commit to doing it, then toss me an email at [email protected] and let me know how you felt afterward. Did it push you to want to do more? To achieve more?

4. Practice self-care regularly

Taking care of yourself is one of the best ways to remind yourself that you matter. Knowing you matter is a BIG part of self-confidence.

5. Practice self gratitude

We’ve all heard about gratitude journals. The whole world is abuzz with gratitude. Be more grateful for what you have. Be grateful for the small things. Etc.

And this kind of gratitude CAN be a wonderful thing, especially when times get tough.

Why? Because having gratitude doesn’t mean you can’t wish for more or work toward something better. It simply means that WHILE you work toward something better you remember how FORTUNATE you are to have what you DO have.

So, how does this work with confidence? And what the heck is SELF-gratitude?

Well, it’s pretty simple, really. It’s being grateful for yourself.

It’s saying,

Thank you, me, for all you do.

Thank you, self, for caring about me, my family, my friends.

Thank you, body, for doing your best to keep me feeling good and here on this planet.

Thank you, past self, for overcoming something difficult so I could get to where I am.

6. Strut your stuff

Walking with good posture does TWO important things:

  1. It makes other people treat you as though you are confident
  2. It tells your body to tell your brain that you are awake, alert, and ready for life

Sure, people say we shouldn’t really care too much about what other people think of us, but that doesn’t stop it from mattering. The way people think about us affects the way that they treat us which can have a HUGE impact on our self-confidence.

Think about this. If you’re in a meeting and people approach you like you know what you’re talking about you’re probably going to have more success than if they treat you like you don’t have a clue. And while it might not be FAIR, it is TRUE that people will treat us more like we’re in charge if we LOOK like we’re in charge. Good posture is one piece of that puzzle.

There’s also a thing that happens in our bodies when we sit and stand with better posture. It sends signals to our brains that we are in control. That we’ve “got this.” (Yep, there’s a real study on this. Click here to check it out.)

OK, but how can you actually HELP your posture?

It’s REALLY easy to forget.

Some people actually buy posture braces (you can usually get these from a physiotherapy place or probably even Amazon).

You can also try kinesiology tape. 👉 Here’s a video on how to use it for posture.

OR you can just go old school and set reminders in your phone to perk up your chest and let your shoulders rest!

7. Assert yourself

Let me tell you, this is a hard one for me. I’ve been working on my own assertiveness for YEARS.

Being assertive looks like:

  • Saying “no” when you need to
  • Standing up for yourself when you’re hurt
  • Having healthy boundaries

If being assertive is something you are naturally good at or have worked super hard on and mastered, drop a celebration dance .gif in the comments because, girl, that’s awesome!

If you’re like me and you’re still working on things, that’s OK! We’re working on confidence, here, so the important part is not to be perfect at something, but to celebrate and be proud of the steps you take to get to where you want to be.

8. Embrace your beauty
